In April, Katie Snyder welcomed her dog Leia to temporarily reside with her father. Leia finds joy in having Snyder’s parents all to herself, without the presence of her two furry siblings. However, you might not guess this from observing her demeanor.
According to Snyder, Leia deviates from the typical cuddly dog stereotype. She possesses remarkable independence and a relaxed nature, making her exceptionally self-reliant.
“Leia has an exceptional way of expressing love for each individual,” she continued. “Whether it’s snuggling up next to you during a movie night or patiently waiting outside the bathroom door until you’re done.”
Although Snyder recognized that Leia was enjoying her time, she was unaware of the profound bond the dog had developed with her father until a crucial moment put their connection to the test.
During the celebration of Snyder’s parents’ 40th wedding anniversary, her father faced additional cancer complications, requiring a visit to the hospital. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Snyder’s mother was unable to accompany him.
When Snyder’s mother returned home alone, it was clear that she wasn’t the only one feeling distraught. Leia, with a lowered head, stood watch at the front entrance, patiently awaiting her father’s return.
Capturing the poignant scene, Snyder’s mother took a photograph of the grieving dog and shared it with her daughter. Overwhelmed by emotions, Snyder recounted, “As soon as she showed me the image, tears welled up in my eyes. It shattered me. I could sense the depth of Leia’s genuine love for my father and the immense longing she had for his presence.”
The following day, Snyder and Leia were filled with happiness when Snyder’s father returned home. Witnessing the impact of her father’s absence on Leia, Snyder made the decision to make Leia’s living arrangement a permanent one, ensuring that her beloved dog would always have a stable and loving home.
“Leia embodies the essence of loyalty that defines a dog,” Snyder added. “Now, he has become her cherished human.”
“My mother has grown accustomed to the affectionate presence of another female showering him with kisses on the face,” she shared.
