The United States is conducting tests of its advanced and technologically advanced $1 billion drone on US aircraft carriers.

“Automation” has emerged as a prominent trend in technological advancements, encompassing various sectors including the military. In the 21st century, unmanned combat aerial vehicles (UCAVs) have not only revolutionized the effectiveness of operations on the battlefield but have also challenged the conventional military paradigm.

The era of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) has arrived, and the X-47B is set to make a significant impact. This autonomous aircraft has the capacity to transport 4,500 lbs of payload and its foldable wings enable convenient storage on a carrier. Moreover, it has a range of 2,400 miles which can be extended through mid-air refueling with a tanker, a feat accomplished successfully for the first time by the X-47B.

A different unmanned aircraft, similar in appearance to a Bell 407, is also utilized on carriers. The MQ-8C, nearly equivalent in size to a piloted helicopter, can achieve speeds of up to 160 mph and carry 2,900 lbs of payload or cargo. Similar to its previous iterations, the Fire Scout is equipped with sensors that enhance its situational awareness, thereby bolstering its capacity for over-the-horizon targeting.
