The United States provided additional security assistance to Ukraine, which included the provision of 125 Humvees and ammunition.

The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) has announced the approval of a Presidential Drawdown, authorizing security assistance worth up to $275 million to address Ukraine’s critical security and defense needs. This marks the twenty-fourth drawdown of equipment from DoD inventories for Ukraine since August 2021 under the Biden Administration. Overall, the United States has pledged over $18.5 billion in security assistance to Ukraine since January 2021, including approximately $17.9 billion following Russia’s unwarranted invasion on February 24, 2022. Strengthening air defense capabilities remains a top priority for the U.S. in supporting Ukraine. As emphasized by Secretary Austin, the initial delivery of two NASAMS systems committed by the United States is scheduled for early next month, and collaborative efforts are underway with our Allies to transfer their own air defense systems to Ukraine. The United States will continue working with its Allies and partners to provide Ukraine with vital capabilities in line with their evolving battlefield requirements.

The High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV), commonly known as the Humvee, is a range of lightweight, four-wheel drive military trucks and utility vehicles manufactured by AM General. While primarily utilized by the United States military, it is also employed by various other nations, organizations, and has even found civilian applications. The Humvees were procured by Ukraine through the U.S. Foreign Military Sales program, with a total of 342 vehicles obtained since 2001, encompassing different variants such as ?1097?2/?1114/?998/M1152/?1116/M1025/HMMWV. Approximately 110 vehicles are currently deployed within the 95th Airmobile Brigade, and an additional 10 vehicles were donated to the Polish-Ukrainian Peace Force Battalion (POLUKRBAT). Following the Battle of Debaltseve, there were reports of insurgents utilizing Humvee-like vehicles. In response to the Russian invasion in 2022, a significant number of vehicles, estimated to be in the hundreds, were pledged for donation to Ukraine. In October 2022, over 200 vehicles were sent to support Ukraine’s defense efforts.
