The achievement of Ryan Reynolds with Wrexham has been truly extraordinary, as he successfully guided the Welsh team to promotion. His story of success is even inspiring other famous individuals and well-known personalities to form their own soccer team and aspire to achieve greatness.
Reynolds’ influence appears to be extensive, as he has enticed the former WWE superstar, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, to consider establishing his own soccer club. Previously, both individuals were involved in a pursuit for the NHL’s Ottawa Senators, but it proved to be unsuccessful. Nevertheless, it seems that Johnson is now considering venturing into the same domain as Ryan Reynolds once again.
As reported by Echo, Johnson is currently exploring the possibility of entering the territory of the renowned Deadpool star. The actor is considering involvement in the future endeavors of Southend United, a team in the National League. Much like Reynolds’ ‘Welcome to Wrexham,’ The Rock intends to contribute to the fifth division side by assisting in the production of a documentary.
This development follows a group of local entrepreneurs, including Simon Jackson and Kristofer Tremains from Kimura Capital, as well as members from Integral Sports Management, who are currently involved in progressive discussions with Ron Martin, the chairman of the Shrimpers. During this process, they also reached out to Johnson and his production company, Seven Bucks Productions. Actor Ray Winston, a co-founder of ISM, is reportedly also involved in the bid.
According to reports, the group, in collaboration with the former WWE superstar’s production company, aims to produce a documentary about the National League club if the takeover is successfully completed. The current owner, Martin, has encountered difficulties in managing the club and put it up for sale in March. Unfortunately, office staff members have yet to receive their salaries for the months of March and April.
Furthermore, the club has been subjected to a transfer embargo since September and has outstanding debts to HMRC (Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs). Recently, the club managed to avoid winding-up proceedings, but they must settle their remaining tax debt of £250,000 by July 12. Therefore, the involvement of Johnson and Winston could potentially benefit the club in various ways. However, Johnson will be striving to prevent any setbacks in the acquisition process, especially considering his recent significant financial loss.
Following his significant achievements with Wrexham, Reynolds expressed a desire to further expand his endeavors by acquiring another sports franchise. The Canadian actor displayed keen interest in acquiring the NHL’s Ottawa Senators, which enticed Johnson to also join the bidding competition. Unfortunately, despite both of them submitting bids of over a billion dollars, neither of them succeeded in acquiring the team.
As a result, they decided to withdraw from the competition to acquire the Senators. Their participation in the bidding process also sparked interest from renowned musicians such as The Weeknd and Snoop Dogg. However, it appears that Johnson has now shifted his focus away from the Senators and is exploring involvement in the future endeavors of a soccer club.
