In tribute to America’s sole Le Mans-conquering supercar, which achieved victories in both 2016 and the iconic 1-2-3 podium sweep in 1966, the 2022 Ford GT LM Edition joyously celebrates the remarkable global triumphs of the Ford GT.
Draped in a resplendent Liquid Silver exterior paint and adorned with a carbon fiber body, this exclusive Ford GT LM edition is elegantly adorned in either a red or blue theme, paying homage to the esteemed race livery of the victorious No. 68 Ford GT. Its exterior displays the captivating race livery, while its interior boasts an exquisitely asymmetric design.
“As we conclude this extraordinary chapter of the road-bound Ford GT, the GT LM Edition provides us with a golden opportunity to infuse even greater passion and dedication derived from a racecar that achieved podium glory, further extending our homage to our triumphant 2016 Le Mans victory,” expressed Mark Rushbrook, the esteemed global director of Ford Performance Motorsports, underscoring the car’s exceptional blend of groundbreaking materials, design, and engineering.
The Ford GT retains its air of exclusivity, and these final 20 special-edition supercars will enhance its desirability among collectors. For a distinctive visual appeal, customers have the option to select from exposed carbon fiber in a striking red or blue tint, accentuating the supercar’s sleek aerodynamics. This includes tinting the lightweight material on the front splitter, side sills, and door sills, as well as the engine bay louvers, mirror stalks, and rear diffuser.
Complementing this package are exposed gloss carbon fiber 20-inch wheels adorned with inner-barrel accents in corresponding red or blue, accompanied by titanium lug nuts and sleek black-lacquered Brembo® brake calipers to imbue a contemporary touch. The Ford GT LM distinguishes itself with a unique 3D-printed dual-exhaust system crafted from titanium, featuring a cyclonic design within the tips that alludes to the power of the twin-turbo 660 horsepower EcoBoost® engine. Furthermore, a titanium GT LM badge, also created through 3D printing, graces the area above the exhaust tips.
Within the Ford GT LM Edition, a remarkable attention to detail is evident in its interior appointments. The carbon fiber seats, expertly wrapped in Alcantara®, exude luxury, with the driver’s seat available in a captivating red or blue shade that harmonizes with the matching accent stitching. Meanwhile, the passenger seat boasts an elegant Ebony hue, perfectly complementing the driver’s seat color and even the engine start button.
The instrument panel is skillfully enveloped in a combination of Ebony leather and Alcantara, while the pillars and headliner are gracefully draped in Ebony Alcantara fabric. Carbon fiber accents gracefully extend into the cabin, gracing the console, vent registers, and lower A-pillars with a refined matte finish. In crafting the Ford GT LM Edition as a truly exceptional and final tribute, the Ford Performance team embarked on a quest to infuse the spirit of Le Mans podium triumph into each road car.
The outcome is truly extraordinary: the team managed to locate the engine of the third-place 2016 Ford GT racecar (No. 69) that had been carefully disassembled and stored after the race. They meticulously ground down the crankshaft into a fine powder, from which they developed a bespoke alloy. This unique alloy was then used to 3D print the instrument panel badge, an exquisite piece of craftsmanship, for each of the 20 special-edition supercars.
The 2022 Ford GT LM Edition serves as a heartfelt tribute to the remarkable achievements of the third-generation supercar, specifically commemorating the triumphant overall victory and the exceptional performance of the No. 68 Ford GT, driven by Sébastien Bourdais (FRA), Joey Hand (US), and Dirk Müller (GER), who triumphantly crossed the finish line at the renowned 2016 Le Mans 24 Hours.
Joining the winners on the podium, the No. 69 Ford GT, piloted by Ryan Briscoe (AUS), Scott Dixon (NZ), and Richard Westbrook (GB), secured a commendable third place. The No. 66 and No. 67 Ford GTs secured fourth and ninth places, respectively, further enhancing the collective achievement. In a narrative reminiscent of the legendary 1966 Ford vs. Ferrari battle, the No. 68 Ford GT seized the lead in the 20th hour of the race after engaging in a thrilling head-to-head duel with the No. 82 Ferrari. On three crucial occasions, it was Joey Hand who skillfully maneuvered the Ford GT past the Ferrari, reigniting a historic rivalry between these two iconic car manufacturers that spanned over half a century.
Beyond its commemorative nature, the 2022 Ford GT LM Edition also pays homage to the herculean efforts and unwavering dedication of the Ford Chip Ganassi team. In a testament to their extraordinary commitment, they transformed the car into a Le Mans champion within a remarkably tight timeframe of just over one year, accomplishing this feat in a mere 395 days.
