Helibras and Airbus Helicopters have marked a significant milestone in the evolution of the H225M multirole utility helicopter. They proudly unveiled the inaugural aircraft in its naval combat configuration, ushering in a new era.
This particular variant of the H225M, developed and manufactured by Helibras, a Brazilian subsidiary of Airbus Helicopters, has been meticulously designed to meet the Brazilian Navy’s exacting specifications. It boasts impressive features, including anti-surface capabilities and advanced maritime surveillance systems.
The H225M has undergone a remarkable transformation, incorporating a tactical mission system developed by Helibras. This system encompasses an APS-143 surveillance radar, cutting-edge self-protection mechanisms, and intelligence capabilities for enhanced situational awareness.
Additionally, the helicopter is outfitted with two AM39 Exocet anti-ship missiles, and its cargo bay includes a specialized sensor operator console that offers the mission commander a comprehensive tactical overview. To gather information about surface vessels, the crew can rely on an automatic identification system (AIS).
The H225M in its naval combat configuration was scheduled for delivery to the Brazilian Navy in 2018, following the successful completion of military certification trials.
As part of a comprehensive global order, the Brazilian armed forces have procured a total of 50 H225M helicopters, with 26 already successfully delivered to the Brazilian Air Force, Navy, and Army. Helibras, located in Itajubá, is responsible for the entire assembly process of the H225Ms, which includes integrating mission equipment, conducting flight line activities, and overseeing industrial acceptance.
With the aim of attaining a 50% national content goal by 2020, Helibras has established a robust local supply chain that involves the collaboration of over 37 Brazilian companies.
Helibras, an Airbus Helicopters company, has been actively operating in Brazil for 38 years and holds the distinction of being the sole helicopter manufacturer in the country. Throughout its tenure, the company has successfully delivered over 750 helicopters, solidifying its position as a market leader with a 50% share of the turbine helicopter market.
Helibras has a dedicated team of 550 skilled professionals who contribute to the assembly lines of the H125 and H225 helicopters. The company also offers comprehensive support and services for the AH range.
