Witness the remarkable relationship between a blind dog in search of a new home and his devoted guide dog companion. Ten-year-old Zac, who lost his sight five years ago, found a loyal companion in Lilli, a fellow Jack Russell terrier. Despite Zac’s blindness, Lilli has stepped up to demonstrate the unbreakable bond between dogs and the invaluable support they can provide to one another.
During their walks, he remains closely by her side, and she warmly accepts his presence, allowing him to rest his head on her when he feels tired or disoriented. Having been rescued as stray puppies ten years ago, this duo has formed an unbreakable bond. When Zac lost his vision due to an eye condition, Lilli stepped in as his trusted guide dog.
Unfortunately, their owner has relocated overseas, prompting the search for a new home. According to Sarah Bussell from the Blue Cross charity in Tiverton, Devon, Zac would be utterly lost without Lilli. Hence, it is crucial to find a new home that can accommodate both dogs, as they are inseparable and need to be rehomed together.
“They share an unbreakable bond and display an extraordinary level of connection, almost as if they communicate telepathically,” she remarked. When they venture outside, Zak relies on Lilli’s scent and presence, staying close to her to navigate his surroundings.
“She provides him with reassurance and physical assistance, gently nudging him in the right direction whenever he becomes disoriented. Lilli remains faithfully by his side, displaying remarkable patience. Zac, on the other hand, is an affectionate soul who relishes in receiving attention.
“Lilli is keenly aware of Zac’s unique needs and takes care to avoid colliding with him during their interactions. When they’re not on a leash, they share a living space in the re-homing area of the shelter, fostering a strong and intimate connection.”
Zac has had a previous stint in the care of the Blue Cross center, where he found refuge as a young puppy several years ago. Sadly, his owner, who was devastated by the circumstances of emigration and the inability to bring her cherished pets along, had to surrender him.
The organization holds the aspiration that a compassionate family will open their hearts and home to both Zac and his devoted companion, granting them the opportunity to lead a serene life filled with stability and a consistent routine.
“Zac is an incredibly affectionate and gentle soul who absolutely thrives on receiving attention,” Sarah commented. Due to his loss of sight, Zac’s other senses have become heightened, and his tail joyfully wags the moment someone enters the room.
“Despite his visual impairment, he remains a remarkably content dog, embracing life to the fullest.
“Prospective owners would need to be mindful of maintaining a clear and unobstructed environment for Zac, allowing him to navigate comfortably around the home. Additionally, he would require a leash during walks to ensure his safety.
“In return, Zac and Lilli would be exceptional companions who would shower their adoptive family with love and devotion.”
