‘He salutes the adoring public in front of him. Those Arsenal fans love him, they’ve got a new hero and he’s only played a few games.

‘They’ve gone wild. That’s why he came here, that’s why they paid the money. Big moments, big matches.’

Rice’s striker saw The Emirates go into delirium as he was mobbed by his teammates and ran to the fans to celebrate the late goal.

The madness didn’t stop there, however, as Gabriel Jesus then added a third goal in the 98th minute to clinch all three points for Arsenal.

Yet, as the players celebrated at the final whistle it was sound of Vanilla Ice’s Ice Ice Baby that ringed around north London as the Gunners fans chanted their new hero’s name.

Earlier Marcus Rashford had put Man United into the lead to liven up a cagey start, just before the half hour mark. But Arsenal hit back within a minute through Martin Odegaard to level the tie.

Erik ten Hag’s side then thought they had won the game when Alejandro Garnacho raced through and put the ball into the back of the net, only for VAR to chalk off the goal for offside.

That set the stage for Arsenal and Rice’s late, late show and they kept up within in touching distance of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League as the teams headed into the international break.
